10년전(2014) 나의 태권도 7단 승단심사 때, 아버지께서 찍어주신 사진이다. 그 때는 한 번에 승단했었다.
그러나 8단은 쉽지 않았다. 재작년(2022)과 작년(2023)에 이은 세 번의 도전 끝에 나는 태권도 8단으로 승단했다.
나는 지금 태권도 9단으로 가는 길에서 수련 중이다.
혹자는 내게 왜 승단에 신경을 쓰냐고 묻는다.
길게 이야기할 거리는 많지만, 짧게 줄여 답하자면...
3단으로 태권도를 그만두려던 나를 4단 심사에 지원할 수 있게 꾸짖어주신 내 부모님의 물심양면 지원이 그 이유의 절반이고...
내가 지금보다 더 어리던 태권도 6단 시절, "24반무예 경당 범사로서 우리 무예를 외국에서 지도 보급하는 사범이니, 앞으로도 타 무예인들 앞에서 쉽게 고개를 숙이지 말라"시며 심사 후 7단을 내려주신, 24반무예 복원 계승자 임동규 선생님의 격려가 나머지 절반이다...
라고 답하며...나 스스로를 돌아본다.
그래서 내가 남들 앞에서 목이 빳빳하고, 허리가 꼿꼿하고, 성격에 꼬장꼬장한데가 있나보다.
말보다는 행동으로, 쑈(show) 보다는 삶(life)으로...
숨쉬고, 먹고, 일하고, 공부하고, 수련하고, 쓰고, 싸고, 자며, 사랑 속에서 산다.

This is a photo my father took when I took the 7th Dan promotion test in Taekwondo 10 years ago (2014). At that time, I got promoted in one go.
However, getting to 8th Dan was not easy. After three attempts in the year before last (2022) and last year (2023), I got promoted to 8th Dan in Taekwondo.
I am currently training on the way to 9th Dan in Taekwondo.
Some people ask me why I care about getting promoted.
There is a lot to talk about, but to make it short...
Half of the reason is the material and spiritual support of my parents who scolded me when I was about to quit Taekwondo at 3rd Dan, so that I could apply for the 4th Dan examination...
The other half is the encouragement of Grand Master Lim Dong Gyu, the restorer and successor of the Korean 24 Martial Arts, who said, "As a GyeongDang BeomSa (a title for advanced master of the ancient 24 martial arts academy), you are a master who teaches and promotes our martial arts abroad, so don't bow your head easily in front of other martial artists in the future," and gave me the 7th Dan after the examination... At that time, I was one of the youngest 6th dan Taekwondo masters...
As I answer... I look back at myself.
That's why I have a stiff neck, a straight back, and a stubborn personality in front of others.
I live by actions rather than words, and by life rather than show...
I breathe, eat, work, study, train, write, excrete, sleep and live in love.

Esta es una foto que me tomó mi padre cuando hice el examen de ascenso a 7º Dan en Taekwondo hace 10 años (2014). En ese momento, ascendí de una sola vez.
Sin embargo, llegar al 8º Dan no fue fácil. Después de tres intentos del año antepasado (2022) al año pasado (2023), ascendí a 8º Dan en Taekwondo.
Actualmente estoy entrenando para alcanzar el 9º Dan en Taekwondo.
Algunas personas me preguntan por qué me preocupa ascender.

La mitad de la razón es el apoyo material y espiritual de mis padres, que me regañaron cuando estaba a punto de dejar el Taekwondo en el 3er Dan, para que pudiera solicitar el examen de 4º Dan...
La otra mitad es el estímulo del Gran Maestro Lim Dong Gyu, el sucesor de la restauración de las 24 artes marciales coreanas, que dijo: "Como GyeongDang BeomSa (un título para maestro avanzado de la antigua academia de 24 artes marciales), eres un maestro que enseña y promueve nuestras artes marciales en el extranjero, así que no inclines la cabeza fácilmente frente a otros artistas marciales en el futuro", y me dio el 7º Dan de ISIBSABANMUYE GyeongDang después del examen... Aquel tiempo, yo era uno de los maestros de Taekwondo de 6º dan más joven...
Mientras respondo... miro hacia atrás a mí mismo.
Es por eso que tengo el cuello rígido, la espalda recta y una personalidad obstinada frente a los demás.
Vivo por acciones en lugar de palabras, y por la vida en lugar de por las apariencias...
